Through historical analyses and participatory action research collaborations, my projects in assessment, education policy, and teacher education emphasize relationship building to improve education opportunities with(in) culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Assessment plays a large role across all these areas.

Current Community Involvement
AMELI: Asociación Mexicana de Evaluación de Lenguas Indígenas was started in 2018 in Oaxaca, Mexico with Drs. Mario López-Gopar (Universidad Autónoma de “Benito Juárez” de Oaxaca, Mexico) and Constant Leung (King’s College, London, UK). We use a shared governance model and host meetings at UABJO that are free and open to the public.
ALTECA-DR: Association of Language Teachers for Classroom Assessment in the Dominican Republic was co-founded in 2025 in Rio San Juan with Dr. Angel Arias (Carleton University, Canada). We support professional learning communities and maintain an active community on WhatsApp.
